Unlike conventional liposuction which suctions solid fat through a larger
cannula, SmartLipo gently liquefies fat so it can easily drain or be absorbed
by the body's lymphatic system naturally. SmartLipo results in less bleeding,
less bruising, less swelling and a quick recovery time than conventional
liposuction.
The procedure is done in-office, and does not require the use of a general
anesthetic...you will be awake and comfortable during your SmartLipo
treatment.
HOW DOES SMARTLIPO WORK?
SmartLipo us performed using a paper-clip thin, 1mm cannula (or tube)
containing a micro-laser at the tip. When placed under the skin, the laser is
moved back and forth delivering the its energy directly to the fat cells causing
them to rupture, liquefy and easily drain away. The heat from the laser
cauterizes the underlying blood vessels resulting in less bleeding, bruising
and swelling. Simultaneously, tissue around the area coagulates, resulting in
overall skin tightening in the treatment area.
WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR SMARTLIPO?
If you have areas of fat that will not respond to diet and exercise, then you're
a candidate for SmartLipo. Ideal candidates are in good health, of normal
body weight and have realistic expectations for the results.
HOW MUCH DOWNTIME WILL I EXPERIENCE?
SmartLipo is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure which usually requires
only local anesthesia which minimizes downtime considerably. Some light
bruising can occur, but you can expect to return to work in a couple of days
following the procedure. Some patients are able to return to work the same
day, depending on the area treated. Vigorous exercise can be resumed two
weeks after the procedure. Conventional liposuction can come with 1-2 weeks
of downtime.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE REQUIRED?
Typically only 1 treatment is necessary. Results can be seen within a week,
with continued improvement and skin retraction lasting up to 3-6 months.
